For the first time, our very own Classical Conversations parent practicum is coming to Fort Wayne! It will be Thursday through Saturday, May 29-31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. A practicum is a chance for like-minded parents to gather together and learn about classical education while refreshing themselves for the year ahead. Children can attend on-site geo-drawing or writing camps for the older kids, or play camps for younger kids. The child camps cost $35 ($39 for ages 0-2), but parents are completely free.
The theme this year is “The Art of Rhetoric.” What is rhetoric? It is the art of communicating truth. Our practicum will be filled with both inspirational and practical ideas about writing, speaking, and our ultimate goal of cultivating intelligent, virtuous young adults. If you want a better handle on classical education, ideas for putting it into practice at home, to spend time with other parents who also love classic literature and great ideas, this is the place for you.
Morning speakers will present practical tools for giving your children a classical, Christian education at home. See the grammar, dialectic, and rhetoric stages of learning in every subject and discover how every subject glorifies God. The second half of the morning will be devoted to understanding the art of rhetoric. Afternoon facilitators will demonstrate practical tools for teaching rhetoric and writing.
