On this last Friday’s nature walk, amid perfect fall weather a gaggle of children collected ants in the school yard and poured them into new homes, where we’ll spend the next several weeks watching them tunnel.

Below are some pictures of the day, followed by pictures of what the ant farms looked like just two days later. Share your pictures of your ants on our Facebook page!

Notice that we’re using our brand new outdoor classroom benches as tables for this project. Thank you again, playground givers and makers!

The children wait pretty patiently for their turn at the two dirt buckets — sand and soil — to fill their ant farms with building materials.

Look how long and visible these ant tunnels are!

Don’t forget to hop over to our Facebook page to share your ant pictures! Just post on the wall or on the thread for this post.
